Sermon Overview
I am excited to recap last Sundayโs sermon.
In my sermon titled โThe Pause Before The Promise,โ I delve deep into the idea that our breakdowns often set the stage for breakthroughs. I discussed Joseph, highlighting how he faced numerous trials without losing sight of Godโs promises.
I point out that while many of us yearn to fulfill Godโs promises and the breakthroughs that come with them, weโre often less enthusiastic about the preceding breakdowns. I argue that these challenging times are crucial for us to truly appreciate and glorify God during our moments of triumph, as they instill a steadfast determination to praise Him.
I also share a personal story about my friendโs grandmother, who had an uncanny ability to predict rain through her sense of smell. I use this to illustrate that Godโs promises might not always be immediately evident but can manifest quite unexpectedly.
I emphasize the importance of finding strength in silence and patiently waiting for Godโs timing, drawing parallels between the biblical story of Mary and Josephโs journey to Bethlehem and the challenges we face before a breakthrough. I refer to Luke 2 and Romans 8:25 to underscore the concept of patience and confidence in waiting for what we do not yet see.
Moreover, I reflect on the significance of pausing and taking a moment to slow down, suggesting these moments arenโt just delays but preparations for whatโs to come. I share a personal anecdote from a trip to Mississippi, where an unexpected rainstorm caught us off guard.
This experience is a metaphor for being prepared and attentive to Godโs signs and messages. My friendโs grandmother, who sensed the impending storm, symbolizes the spiritual discernment we all need to recognize and prepare for the fulfillment of Godโs promises in our lives.
Key takeaways (with YouTube Time Stamps)
- Breakdowns are an integral part of the journey towards experiencing Godโs promises. They teach us resilience and ensure that our praise and gratitude towards God are unshakeable when the breakthrough comes. This perspective helps believers endure difficult times, understanding that they are a prelude to Godโs fulfillment.[14:17]
- The fulfillment of Godโs promises often comes after silence and waiting. This waiting period is not a sign of Godโs absence but a time for believers to strengthen their faith and trust in Godโs timing. The story of Mary and Josephโs journey to Bethlehem serves as a reminder that even in the most challenging circumstances, Godโs promises will come to pass.[10:41]
- The ability to sense and prepare for what God is about to do in our lives is crucial. Just as the grandmother in Mississippi felt the coming rain, believers must be attuned to the spiritual signs that precede Godโs actions. This discernment allows us to be ready when God moves.[05:35]
- Patience is a virtue that is deeply connected to faith. Waiting for Godโs promises requires a confident expectation that God’s words will happen, even without physical evidence. This patience is not passive but an active trust in Godโs faithfulness.[09:58]
- Lifeโs pauses are not to be mistaken for inaction or wasted time. Instead, they are opportunities for growth and preparation. Believers should embrace these pauses, understanding that God is at work behind the scenes, setting the stage for the promises to unfold in His perfect timing.[08:31]
Daily Devotional
Day 1: Embracing the Quiet Moments
Scripture Reading: Luke 2:6-7
Reflect on how Mary and Joseph experienced a period of quiet and anticipation before the birth of Jesus. Just as their story is no different from ours, take time today to embrace the quiet moments in your life. Use these moments to reflect, pray, and seek Godโs guidance. Remember that it is often in the silence that we can find our strength for the next step.
Reflection Question: How can you intentionally create space in your daily life for quiet moments of reflection and anticipation?
Day 2: Finding Strength in Breakdowns
Scripture Reading: Romans 8:25
Consider the truth that before a breakthrough, there is often a breakdown. Reflect on times in your life when you experienced challenges and uncertainties. In those moments, how did God sustain you? Meditate on Romans 8:25 and remind yourself that waiting patiently and confidently in Godโs timing can lead to growth and maturity in our faith.
Reflection Question: How can you maintain a positive attitude and trust in Godโs faithfulness during seasons of breakdown and waiting?
Day 3: Trusting Godโs Perfect Timing
Scripture Reading: Ecclesiastes 3:1
Recognize that Godโs timing is perfect, even when it feels painfully slow. As you wait for Godโs promises, remember that God sits above time and sees the bigger picture. Trust in His sovereignty and believe He works all things together for your good. Spend time today reading and meditating on Ecclesiastes 3:1, and allow God to reaffirm His faithfulness in His perfect timing.
Reflection Question: How can you surrender your need for control and fully trust Godโs perfect timing in your life?
Day 4: Active Anticipation
Scripture Reading: James 1:4
Understand that waiting is not a passive state but an active one. While you wait for Godโs promises to unfold, actively engage in preparations and growth. Consider opportunities to upgrade your skills, deepen your faith, and fortify your spirit. Seek Godโs guidance on how you can actively participate in His plans for your life so that you will be equipped and ready when the breakthrough comes.
Reflection Question: What steps can you take today to prepare yourself actively for the fulfillment of Godโs promises?
Day 5: Patience and Maintaining Joy
Scripture Reading: Galatians 6:9
Examine your attitude while you wait for Godโs promises. Choose to maintain joy and a positive outlook, even when circumstances seem difficult. Remember that Godโs faithfulness is unwavering, and He will fulfill His promises in His perfect timing. Today, meditate on Galatians 6:9 and be encouraged to persevere in doing good, knowing that a harvest of blessings awaits those who do not give up.
Reflection Question: How can you cultivate a joyful and patient attitude while you wait for Godโs promises to unfold?
