Sermon Overview

I am excited to recap last Sunday’s sermon.

In my sermon titled “The Pause Before The Promise,” I delve deep into the idea that our breakdowns often set the stage for breakthroughs. I discussed Joseph, highlighting how he faced numerous trials without losing sight of God’s promises.

I point out that while many of us yearn to fulfill God’s promises and the breakthroughs that come with them, we’re often less enthusiastic about the preceding breakdowns. I argue that these challenging times are crucial for us to truly appreciate and glorify God during our moments of triumph, as they instill a steadfast determination to praise Him.

I also share a personal story about my friend’s grandmother, who had an uncanny ability to predict rain through her sense of smell. I use this to illustrate that God’s promises might not always be immediately evident but can manifest quite unexpectedly.

I emphasize the importance of finding strength in silence and patiently waiting for God’s timing, drawing parallels between the biblical story of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem and the challenges we face before a breakthrough. I refer to Luke 2 and Romans 8:25 to underscore the concept of patience and confidence in waiting for what we do not yet see.

Moreover, I reflect on the significance of pausing and taking a moment to slow down, suggesting these moments aren’t just delays but preparations for what’s to come. I share a personal anecdote from a trip to Mississippi, where an unexpected rainstorm caught us off guard.

This experience is a metaphor for being prepared and attentive to God’s signs and messages. My friend’s grandmother, who sensed the impending storm, symbolizes the spiritual discernment we all need to recognize and prepare for the fulfillment of God’s promises in our lives.

Key takeaways (with YouTube Time Stamps)

  1. Breakdowns are an integral part of the journey towards experiencing God’s promises. They teach us resilience and ensure that our praise and gratitude towards God are unshakeable when the breakthrough comes. This perspective helps believers endure difficult times, understanding that they are a prelude to God’s fulfillment.[14:17]
  2. The fulfillment of God’s promises often comes after silence and waiting. This waiting period is not a sign of God’s absence but a time for believers to strengthen their faith and trust in God’s timing. The story of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem serves as a reminder that even in the most challenging circumstances, God’s promises will come to pass.[10:41]
  3. The ability to sense and prepare for what God is about to do in our lives is crucial. Just as the grandmother in Mississippi felt the coming rain, believers must be attuned to the spiritual signs that precede God’s actions. This discernment allows us to be ready when God moves.[05:35]
  4. Patience is a virtue that is deeply connected to faith. Waiting for God’s promises requires a confident expectation that God’s words will happen, even without physical evidence. This patience is not passive but an active trust in God’s faithfulness.[09:58]
  5. Life’s pauses are not to be mistaken for inaction or wasted time. Instead, they are opportunities for growth and preparation. Believers should embrace these pauses, understanding that God is at work behind the scenes, setting the stage for the promises to unfold in His perfect timing.[08:31]

Daily Devotional

Day 1: Embracing the Quiet Moments

Scripture Reading: Luke 2:6-7

Reflect on how Mary and Joseph experienced a period of quiet and anticipation before the birth of Jesus. Just as their story is no different from ours, take time today to embrace the quiet moments in your life. Use these moments to reflect, pray, and seek God’s guidance. Remember that it is often in the silence that we can find our strength for the next step.

Reflection Question: How can you intentionally create space in your daily life for quiet moments of reflection and anticipation?

Day 2: Finding Strength in Breakdowns

Scripture Reading: Romans 8:25

Consider the truth that before a breakthrough, there is often a breakdown. Reflect on times in your life when you experienced challenges and uncertainties. In those moments, how did God sustain you? Meditate on Romans 8:25 and remind yourself that waiting patiently and confidently in God’s timing can lead to growth and maturity in our faith.

Reflection Question: How can you maintain a positive attitude and trust in God’s faithfulness during seasons of breakdown and waiting?

Day 3: Trusting God’s Perfect Timing

Scripture Reading: Ecclesiastes 3:1

Recognize that God’s timing is perfect, even when it feels painfully slow. As you wait for God’s promises, remember that God sits above time and sees the bigger picture. Trust in His sovereignty and believe He works all things together for your good. Spend time today reading and meditating on Ecclesiastes 3:1, and allow God to reaffirm His faithfulness in His perfect timing.

Reflection Question: How can you surrender your need for control and fully trust God’s perfect timing in your life?

Day 4: Active Anticipation

Scripture Reading: James 1:4

Understand that waiting is not a passive state but an active one. While you wait for God’s promises to unfold, actively engage in preparations and growth. Consider opportunities to upgrade your skills, deepen your faith, and fortify your spirit. Seek God’s guidance on how you can actively participate in His plans for your life so that you will be equipped and ready when the breakthrough comes.

Reflection Question: What steps can you take today to prepare yourself actively for the fulfillment of God’s promises?

Day 5: Patience and Maintaining Joy

Scripture Reading: Galatians 6:9

Examine your attitude while you wait for God’s promises. Choose to maintain joy and a positive outlook, even when circumstances seem difficult. Remember that God’s faithfulness is unwavering, and He will fulfill His promises in His perfect timing. Today, meditate on Galatians 6:9 and be encouraged to persevere in doing good, knowing that a harvest of blessings awaits those who do not give up.

Reflection Question: How can you cultivate a joyful and patient attitude while you wait for God’s promises to unfold?

Happy Monday Reader,

🛡️Last Sunday’s sermon today, titled “No Room at the Inn: Making Space For Miracles,”reminds us that our lives today are much like the bustling scene at the inn in Bethlehem during the time of Jesus, with commitments and responsibilities leaving our schedules overloaded and scarcely any vacancy.

We exhaust ourselves trying to accommodate every need, yet often fail to notice the divine possibilities standing unrecognized amidst the hurried chaos. Reflecting on the humility of Jesus’ birth in a manger, we are encouraged to declutter our crowded lives, make space for what truly matters, and welcome the miracles we might otherwise miss.

Sermon Overview

I am excited to recap last Sunday’s sermon.

In my sermon titled “No Room at the Inn: Making Space For Miracles,” I explore a deep and moving realization that our earthly possessions and relationships, though important, are temporary and will be left behind when we pass away. I paint a vivid picture of a person’s life, filled with familiar and organized belongings.

However, once the owner of these possessions is gone, they become a puzzle for others. This serves as a poignant reminder that we should prioritize eternal values over material attachments, as ultimately, it is our loved ones who will sort through what we leave behind.

I also discuss the concept of decluttering, both in a physical and spiritual sense, to make room for miracles in our lives. I share a personal story about the challenge I faced while decluttering my own office, confronting the common human tendency to accumulate things.

I delve into why people cling to items they no longer need or that no longer serve a purpose. This includes the mentality of saving for the future or assigning value to possessions as a measure of self-worth. This introspection brings me to understand that holding onto unnecessary clutter can impede our ability to experience the miraculous, as it occupies space that could be instead used for new blessings.

Key takeaways (with YouTube Time Stamps)

00:00 – Introduction
00:23 – Why Do We Hold On to Stuff?
10:00 – Where Do We Find Space for Miracles?
15:58 – “When Every Room in Life Is Full…”
19:03 – Decluttering to Make Room for a Miracle
23:27 – How to Declutter Your Mind to See Miracles
28:42 – Conclusion

Why Do We Hold On to Stuff?

Many of us hold on to things because we have a save for later mentality 00:23 – 09:59

We have way too much stuff. Why do we hold on to things? Because we have the save it for later mentality. We can’t make room for new stuff because we have all this clutter. And in the midst of having a full life, we have no room for blessings.

Where Do We Find Space for Miracles?

Joseph and Mary headed to Bethlehem to be counted in the census 10:00 – 15:57

Joseph and Mary are headed to Bethlehem, so that they can be counted in the census. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born. There was no guest room available for them. How do we find space for miracle when every room of our lives is full?

“When Every Room in Life Is Full…”

When every room in life is full, can miracles knock on your door 15:58 – 19:03

When every room in life is full, can miracles knock on your door? How can we receive a miracle when we can’t hear from the miracle worker the voice of God? Every miracle begins with God’s voice.

Decluttering to Make Room for a Miracle

Decluttering begins with hearing the voice of God. 19:03 – 23:27

Cleaning out the clutter begins with hearing the voice of God. Decluttering begins right here in the mind. Build stillness into each day, pausing before we react. This holiday season, embrace those moments of stillness.

How to Declutter Your Mind to See Miracles

Decluttering creates spaces for miracles, but we’re not experiencing them 23:27 – 28:42

Every room in our mind and heart and soul is filled with clutter, worry, clutter. We have to move something out to make room for the miracle to reside. Because decluttering creates spaces for miracles.

Daily Devotional

Day 1: Embrace Eternity in Earthly Living

Our earthly possessions are fleeting, and the true value lies in what endures beyond our physical existence. By focusing on eternal values, we invest in what truly matters, shaping a legacy that outlives material attachments and honors the relationships and spiritual truths that are everlasting.

Matthew 6:19-21 – “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Reflection: How can you invest more in your spiritual life and relationships to build a legacy that honors God and impacts others for eternity?

Day 2: Clearing the Way for Divine Surprises

Decluttering is a spiritual practice that opens up space for miracles and divine interventions. By releasing the unnecessary, we not only tidy our physical surroundings but also prepare our hearts to receive new blessings, allowing us to witness the wonders that God has in store for us.

Isaiah 43:18-19 – “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

Reflection: What physical or spiritual clutter can you remove from your life to make room for the new things God wants to do in and through you?

Day 3: Identity Beyond Possessions

Our worth is not determined by our possessions but by our identity in faith and community. Recognizing this truth allows us to let go of material attachments and find security in our relationship with God and our place within the body of Christ.

Ephesians 2:19-20 – “Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.”

Reflection: In what ways have you allowed possessions to define your worth, and how can you begin to find your identity in Christ and His calling for you?

Day 4: The Common Journey of Letting Go

The challenge of decluttering is a shared human experience that requires intentionality. It is a journey towards simplicity and trust, where we learn to let go of the material to make space for the spiritual, embracing the common pursuit of a life focused on what truly matters.

Hebrews 12:1 – “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

Reflection: What material possessions or attachments are hindering your spiritual growth, and what steps can you take today to begin letting them go?

Day 5: Trusting in God’s Abundant Provision

Moving from a scarcity mindset to one of trust and openness invites God’s provision into our lives. By letting go of our need to hold onto material security, we demonstrate faith in God’s ability to provide and make way for the miraculous in the spaces we’ve created.

Philippians 4:19 – “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”

Reflection: How can you shift from saving out of fear to living with a trust in God’s provision, and what is one step you can take today to demonstrate that trust?

Reflection: What small, seemingly insignificant area of your life might God want to use as a source of hope for you or someone else?
