On Sunday, November 7, I kicked-off a new message series entitled, “Identity Theft.” I was inspired to teach this series after hearing Craig Groeschel of Lifechurch teach on it. I am excited about this series and believe It’ll empower ALL to pursue God’s best version of themselves!
SERIES OVERVIEW
Within this message lies the truth. Actually, it’s the truth about lies. The lies we tell ourselves and the damage they do if we don’t take hold. There’s nothing little or white about them – these lies keep us from finding our true identity: the identity we have knowing that we’re living up to the amazing potential that God has planned for us. In this series, we are going to study several different lies that our spiritual enemy wants to use to rob us of our identity in Christ. What is the devil’s greatest weapon? In John 8:44, Jesus said, “When the devil lies, he speaks his native language.” He is called the father of lies!
SUNDAY’S MESSAGE – “I Got This!”
“I Got This!” Often we hear people say this to give the impression that everything is under control (when it isn’t). During this message we took a look at one of the most common lies that our spiritual enemy wants us to believe, and that is the lie that we have to be strong, that we have to hold it all together. This lie says, “if it’s going to be, it’s going to be up to me…that we have to pull ourselves up by our boot straps…that we have to work harder…that we have to perform…that we MUST produce… that we have to be strong.
CONFESSION TIME
I admit that I’ve told myself, “I Got This” AND believed this lie. Society normally looks down upon men who show emotion. As children we’re told that “boys don’t cry…suck it up…take it for the team…or MAN UP!” The truth about the matter is that our strength is limited and it’ll eventually run out! However, take comfort in knowing that God’s strength is UNLIMITED!
Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:30-31 (NIV)
Have you ever believed this lie? How did it work out for you?
