Recently I took up photography as a hobby and realized how much I love it.

Photography relaxes me and takes away stress. While taking pictures during my children’s graduation ceremonies and sporting events, I ran out of storage space.  I couldn’t take more pictures because the SD card was full.

An SD card (Secure Digital) is a digital storage device used in portable devices such as digital cameras and cell phones because of its small size and light weight. Since videos and pictures require a lot of space, an SD card can fill up quickly. If you want to add additional footage, you have to transfer old footage to another storage device.

Your brain is like an SD card with unlimited storage space.

Our Brains Are Like SD Cards With Unlimited Storage

Your brain is like an SD card with unlimited storage space. It has recorded every single experience your five senses have experienced – everything you’ve smelled, seen, heard, touched, and tasted. It records everything people say (both past and present). Your brain is an amazing storage device.

Here’s the problem: Your brain doesn’t distinguish between things that are true and things that are false.  When you were a child, there were some things that were said to you that were flat-out lies but you believed and acted on them.

Consequently, many still operate on that faulty data. When you base your life on faulty data, you build a self-defeating lifestyle. You set yourself up for failure and pain and hurt. Now you know why you do things that defeat you.

It’s sad some kids grew up hearing adults or authority figures say things like “You’re stupid…You’re ugly…You’re never going to amount to anything…I’m embarrassed to call you my child…You’re uncoordinated…You’re dumb…Why can’t you be smart like your sister/brother…” Unfortunately, their words were stored so now you’re acting on old information stored in your brain.

Change The Way You Think About Yourself

Like old video and pictures taking up space on an SD card, you must remove old footage and replace them with God’s truths. God wants to change you by changing the way you think. How does He do that?

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:1-2 NLT

Psychologists have proven over and over again that the way you see yourself (your self-esteem, your self-worth), is largely determined by what you think the most important people in your life think about you.

So I want to suggest to you that you make Jesus the most important person in your life. Why? He will tell you the truth while everyone else will lie to you. You have to decide – are you going to listen to the noise of the naysayers or am I going to listen to what Jesus said?  Here’s what God has to say about you.

You are a child of God.

But to all who have received him–those who believe in his name–he has given the right to become God’s children. John 1:12.

You are a branch of the true vine and a conduit of Christ’s life.

I am the true vine and my Father is the gardener. I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me–and I in him–bears much fruit, because apart from me you can accomplish nothing. John 15:1, 5

You are a friend of Jesus.

I no longer call you slaves, because the slave does not understand what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because I have revealed to you everything I heard from my Father.  John 15:15

You are justified and redeemed.

But they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus Romans 3:24.

The old you were crucified with Christ, and you are no longer a slave to sin.

We know that our old man was crucified with him so that the body of sin would no longer dominate us, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.  Romans 6:6

You will not be condemned by God.

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.  Romans 8:1

As a child of God, you are a fellow heir with Christ.

And if children, then heirs (namely, heirs of God and also fellow heirs with Christ)–if indeed we suffer with him so we may also be glorified with him.  Romans 8:17

You have been accepted by Christ.

Receive one another, then, just as Christ also received you, to God’s glory.  Romans 15:7

Scripture says when you are in Christ you are valuable, you are acceptable, you are lovable, you are forgivable, you are capable, and you are usable by God. That’s what God says about you. So the question is who are you going to believe? It’s your choice. Remember, you must remove old footage and replace it with God’s truths. It’s a process and will take time.
