What Would YOU Like To Hear Taught Next Year?

Each
year in November our team breaks away for our annual teaching calendar
planning retreat where we lay out a general idea of where we sense God
wants to take us over this next year in terms of teaching and subject
matter.

This week, we will be spending the next several hours focused on praying, planning, and brainstorming.  So please pray for us!

But here's my BIG question for all of you….

What topics/subjects would YOU like to hear teaching on?

I'd
love to hear your ideas!  So leave a comment!  Maybe your feedback will
spark a great idea for Mars Hill or even others over this next year!

Guess Where I'm Headed Tomorrow- Granger Community Church

 OnedayOct31

Wow, it's been at least three years since I've attended a conference.  THREE YEARS!!!

I've made plans be part of Catalyst's newest offering: a One Day
leadership experience (glad someone figured it only took ONE DAY to say what they have to say) packed with teaching and insight from Andy
Stanley
and Craig Groeschel, two leading voices in the Church today.

They say we're going to learn how to:

  • Discover the key to creating and sustaining momentum in your organization
  • Identify and break through the barriers to momentum and overcome personal leadership lids
  • Leverage the three triggers which ignite organizational momentum
  • Create a culture of continual improvement
  • Embrace a new approach to leading organizational change

I really like these two guys & I'm pumped to hear what they have to say!

New Series Begins This Sunday – How To "BE" Rich!

How 2B Rich1

I was inspired to preach this series after hearing Andy Stanley, Senior Pastor of Northpoint Church in Alpharetta, GA.  I got permission to modify, contextualize, & share it with my Mars Hill family.

In this day and age, most people are striving for more…a better job, a larger house, a flashier car, and the list goes on.  However, the recent economic downturn has temporarily placed the chase on hold.

There is more to life than chasing that elusive carrot
that dangles so temptingly in front of you.

Even in the midst of an economic downturn you will discover how to be truly rich, with what you already have.  Join us  this Sunday @ 8AM or 10:30AM to learn "How To Be Rich."  This series IS NOT about how to "GET" rich…It's all about how to "BE" rich.

As the series unfolds, I will post a link to my teaching notes online along w/discussion questions for all who want to engage in dialog.  If you're interested, shoot me an email so I'll know who's participating.  It's sorta like a "cyber small group" discussion.  I firmly believe we grow stronger together.

Have a great weekend!

The Congregation Speaks…Veronica Lewis Answers…You go Girl :-)

I would like for you all to say hello to my guest blogger Veronica Lewis.

Last Sunday she (and many others) took the challenge and decided join the team to help me
respond to over 25 text messages from the congregation. She hit the nail on the head and I could not have said it better myself.  I’m so proud to have members who step up and knock the ball out of the park.  She is the first of many who will be featured on this blog.

Regarding Revenge:

1.  What if its family that keeps hurting you?

The Bible says that through love and kindness have i drawn thee. We must show love especially to our love ones.  No matter how much they hurt us revenge is never the answer.  Jesus told his disciple after they ask him a question about forgiveness that they should forgive their brother 70 times 7 meaning as many times as it take in one day.  I remember a friend telling me about his brother treating him so bad he felt like hurting him but because he was a Christian he would always tell himself God would take care of this situation.  So he just kept praying for his brother that God would touch his heart and God did just that his and his brother got saved.

2.  How do you get rid of the evil that has taken over you?

Prayer is the key to this situation you have to believe that God can and will deliver you from your present evil.  A Christian brother of mine had an anger problem so bad that he always got upset over small things.  He told me that in his mind he wanted to get revenge on the people that upset him, but, in his spirit he knew it wasn’t right.  So he pray every time he felt the presence of evil in him and eventually God delivered him.

3.  What should you do when your friends continue to “pull the scab” off a hurt that you have forgiven?

Let your friends know that you have forgiven them and that God has forgiven you and that’s all that matters.  A friend and his wife were on the verge of a divorce and her friends told her “child you should take him for every dime he has because of the hurt that he had cause her and their family.”  My friend’s wife forgave him and they got back together, but, all her friends kept telling her she was crazy for taking him back and every chance they got they reminded her.  She told them that she had forgiving her husband and that’s all that matters!

Again, way to go Veronica – I’m proud of you!!!

Coming Soon…Questions From the Congregation on "text me"

Textme

Trust me, this series will go down in history as one of the most innovative and controversial series at Mars Hill.  What pastor do you know encourages their members to pull out their cell phones (DURING WORSHIP) and text their questions regarding the sermon.  Guess what, THEY RESPONDED!  The first person to respond had their question answered – LIVE!!!  Additionally, they responded so well that we were overwhelmed with questions that I'll post and answer here.  If you were not able to attend our services, you can view the outline here.

"text me" – The Most Innovative Series to Date…

Textme_2

The"text me" project is your chance to get biblical answers to burning questions, concerns and hot issues in our culture.   Over the next few months, I will preach on the 10 Hottest Topics that address spiritual, ethical or controversial issues facing Christians today.  And guess what, you get to choose the topic!

All you have to do is submit your topic for selection via text message at (773-358 0356) or on our website by April 25, 2008. Your submission, along with others, will be posted on our website.

Members, guests, family and friends will cast their votes for the top 20 Hot Topics.  The selected 20 Hot Topics will be posted on the website beginning April 27th. Beginning May 4th – May 10th, members, guests, family and friends will vote for the final 10 Hot Topic Sermons that I’ll preach on.

GUESS WHAT, IT GETS EVEN BETTER…

When the Top 10 Topics are confirmed, at the end each message you can (are you ready for this) text me a question relevant to the topic.  For better or worse, I’ll answer the question ON THE SPOT!

That’s right, DURING WORSHIP you will be able to use your cell phone, BlackBerry, iPhone, PDA during worship and "text" me your question…TALK ABOUT INNOVATION…

I know you’re interested and would like to know more about the series and the official voting rules

I can’t wait to hear your feedback!!!
